| Description | PICT is a metaformat used for exchanging graphic data between Mac-based applications. PICT uses QuickDraw encoding and it stores both bitmap and vector graphic data. There are two types of PICT files: the obsolete PICT 1 supporting 8 colors and backed by the black-and-white QuickDraw, v. 1; and PICT 2 backed by QuickDraw 2 also known as Color QuickDraw. The format has been around since 1984 and now it has been largely replaced by PDF and has fallen out of use due to large size. |

PICT files from Classic Macintosh software cannot be opened by any modern browser, Windows application, or current macOS version without specialized tools. Converting PICT to PDF gives you a page-faithful document that opens on any device and prints on any printer with no Classic Mac OS dependency. Drop your .pict file above.
PICT (Picture Format) is Apple's classic Macintosh graphics format, introduced in 1984. It stores QuickDraw rendering commands — lines, shapes, text, and embedded bitmaps — that were replayed by the Mac's QuickDraw engine. PICT was the standard image format in Classic Mac OS applications, HyperCard stacks, and early desktop publishing through the 1990s. macOS X deprecated QuickDraw in 2001, and no current platform supports PICT natively.
PDF (Portable Document Format) is Adobe's universal page-faithful document format, now standardized as ISO 32000. Every operating system, browser, and mobile device renders PDF natively — no plugin or legacy software required. PDF preserves the exact visual appearance of the source image, making it the standard for sharing documents that must look identical on every device and print correctly on any printer.
