Archiving 10 years of Canon EOS RAW files as PDFs for a studio rebrand project. The CR2 files from cameras ranging from the 7D to the 5D Mark III all converted consistently.

My photo agency requires CR2 submissions as PDF for their review pipeline. I process an entire Canon EOS shoot — sometimes 200+ CR2 files — into one PDF document in a single run.

CR2 to PDF Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

CR2 (Canon Raw Version 2) is Canon's proprietary raw format used in Canon DSLRs from 2004 to 2018. Cameras that produce CR2 include the EOS 5D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV, 7D, 7D Mark II, 6D, 6D Mark II, 70D, 80D, 90D, and the full Rebel (T-series) lineup including the T3i, T5i, T6i, and T7i. Canon switched to CR3 format in 2018 with the EOS R mirrorless line. If you have an older Canon DSLR, it produces CR2.
Upload your CR2 file using the button on this page. The converter reads the raw Canon sensor data, processes it, and generates a PDF. When conversion is complete, download the PDF. No Canon software, Lightroom, or any installation is needed. The process takes a few seconds for a typical 20–25 MB CR2 file.
The conversion renders the CR2 raw data into a high-quality raster image embedded inside the PDF. The 14-bit raw data is rendered to 8 bits per channel during this process — the same as any JPEG export from Lightroom. The PDF contains a full-resolution image suitable for print review and client delivery. Raw editing capabilities (non-destructive adjustments, full dynamic range recovery) are specific to Canon DPP or Lightroom and are not present in the converted PDF.
The online converter accepts files up to 50 MB. Most Canon DSLRs produce CR2 files of 20–30 MB, which are within this limit. High-resolution Canon bodies like the 5DS and 5DS R (50 MP) can produce larger files. For CR2 files over 50 MB, use Total Image Converter (Windows desktop), which has no file size restriction and can process entire folders.
The online converter handles one file at a time. To batch convert a full Canon shoot, use Total Image Converter with the command: TotalImageConverter.exe C:\CR2_files C:\PDF_out /ConvertTo pdf /ProcessRecursively — this converts all CR2 files in the folder and subfolders automatically. Useful after an import from a Canon memory card.
CR2 is Canon's raw format for DSLRs produced from 2004 to 2018. CR3 is the newer format introduced with the EOS R mirrorless line in 2018. CR3 uses more efficient compression (Canon Log-based and C-RAW options) and is used in the EOS R, R5, R6, and later models. If your camera is an EOS 5D, 7D, 6D, 80D, 90D, or any Rebel T-series, it produces CR2. The EOS R-series cameras produce CR3.
Uploaded files are processed on the server and deleted after conversion. They are not stored or shared. For confidential client work, sensitive personal photos, or any shoot where you cannot allow files to leave your local machine, use Total Image Converter — it converts CR2 files entirely on your Windows computer with no upload.

Convert CR2 to PDF — Share Canon Raw Photos With Anyone

CR2 is Canon's raw format used in DSLRs like the 5D Mark III, 7D, and Rebel series — it captures every detail the sensor sees, but requires Canon DPP or Adobe Camera Raw to open. PDF opens on every device without extra software. This converter reads your CR2 file and delivers a print-ready PDF in seconds.

What Is CR2?

CR2 (Canon Raw Version 2) is Canon's proprietary raw format, introduced in 2004 and used across Canon DSLRs through 2018 — including the EOS 5D series, 7D, 6D, 70D, 80D, and the full Rebel (T-series) lineup. Each file is typically 20–30 MB and stores 14-bit raw sensor data, full EXIF metadata, and an embedded JPEG preview. Canon replaced CR2 with CR3 in 2018 for newer mirrorless models like the EOS R series.

Opening CR2 requires Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP), Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, or a compatible raw editor. Without one of these tools, a CR2 file appears as an unreadable binary on most systems. This limits how easily you can share or submit CR2 images outside a photography workflow.

What Is PDF?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is an open ISO standard (ISO 32000) supported natively by every modern operating system and browser. No extra software, no plugins, no app store download — a PDF opens immediately on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux.

For photographers, PDF means a client can open your image on their phone without installing Canon DPP. A print lab can receive your file directly. A photo can be embedded in a multi-page document alongside text, captions, or crop marks. PDF also supports ICC color profiles and high-resolution raster data, so the visual quality of your Canon shot is preserved through the conversion.

To convert an entire folder of CR2 files to PDF with the desktop converter:

TotalImageConverter.exe C:\CR2_files C:\PDF_out /ConvertTo pdf /ProcessRecursively

This processes every CR2 in the source folder and subfolders, placing PDFs in the output folder. Useful for converting an entire Canon shoot automatically after import. CR2 files from high-megapixel bodies (5DS, 5DS R at 50 MP) can exceed 30 MB — the desktop tool handles these without any file size restriction.
