| Description | RAW is a generic term referring to a family of image formats containing unprocessed image data and metadata, which is received directly from image sensors of digital image- or motion picture cameras and/or scanners. RAW files are not usable as images and are often referred to as digital negatives. RAW images directly reflect color and light intensity and therefore demonstrate true color picture. In order to print or view a RAW file, it must be converted to a standard raster graphics format (JPEG). Each camera model has its own RAW extension. Formats are differentiated according camera manufacturers' names: .nef (Nickon), .crw (Canon), .srw (Samsung), etc. |

| Description | JPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality. |

RAW files store unprocessed sensor data from your camera — every detail captured, nothing discarded. But RAW is a proprietary format that most apps, websites, and printers cannot open. JPG is the universal image format: it opens in every browser, uploads to every platform, and prints at every photo lab. Upload your .cr2, .nef, .arw, .dng, or other RAW format and download a standard JPG in seconds — no Lightroom, no Photoshop, no software installation required.
A RAW file is the unprocessed output of a digital camera sensor — the raw photon counts from each pixel before demosaicing, white balance, noise reduction, or sharpening are applied. Unlike JPEG, which has all these adjustments applied in-camera and then compressed, RAW files preserve the full bit depth (12–16 bits per channel) and the full dynamic range for post-processing. Different camera manufacturers use different proprietary formats:
| Property | RAW | JPG |
|---|---|---|
| Bit depth | 12–16 bits per channel | 8 bits per channel |
| Dynamic range | Full sensor dynamic range preserved | Clipped in-camera during compression |
| White balance | Adjustable in post without quality loss | Baked in — editing degrades quality |
| File size | 15–50 MB typical | 2–8 MB typical |
| Universal compatibility | Requires manufacturer software or Lightroom | Opens in any app, browser, or device |
| Upload to social media / print labs | Not accepted | Universally accepted |
| Post-processing flexibility | Maximum — non-destructive edits | Limited — each save cycle loses quality |

For one or two photos, the online converter is fastest. For a full shoot of 500 RAW files, Total Image Converter processes the entire folder in a single batch run.
Total Image Converter includes a full command-line interface. Convert an entire folder of RAW files to JPG in one command:
imgconverter.exe /S "C:\Photos\Shoot\*.cr2" /F JPG /O "C:\Output" /Q 90
The /Q 90 parameter sets JPEG quality to 90% — a good balance of file size and sharpness. Use Windows Task Scheduler to run automated nightly batch exports from your camera import folder without opening any software manually.
