| Description | JPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality. |

| Description | EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is an extension for files based on the PostScript language and intended for printers/image setters featuring image processors supporting PostScript. There are two types of EPS files: vector graphic files, which are supported by and can be edited in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc., and EPS photo files, which can be edited in programs like PhotoShop. For easier viewing, EPS files contain bitmap images, because it would take too complicated vector instructions to draw an image. |

JPG is universal on the web but rarely the right choice for prepress. EPS wraps your photo in a PostScript container that drops cleanly into InDesign, QuarkXPress, or any print-ready document. Drop your .jpg file above.
JPG (or JPEG) is the lossy photographic raster format standardised in 1992 by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the default output of nearly every camera and smartphone. JPG is rarely accepted by traditional prepress workflows that expect PostScript-compatible files.
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is Adobe's print-oriented exchange format from 1992. EPS files contain PostScript drawing commands plus an optional bitmap preview. Every page-layout tool (InDesign, QuarkXPress, Scribus) and PostScript RIP accepts EPS without conversion.
