| Description | JPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality. |

| Description | WebP is a new lossy image file format, whose mission is to overthrow JPEG, which has long been the ruler of the web image world. Although it is not expected to outdo JEG in image quality right away, it seems to be outdoing it in user-friendliness. With Webp, you get a same-quality image almost 50% smaller than its JPEG counterpart. Webp uses VP8 ñ an open-source codec, and a RIFF-based container, which creates a good potential for further development. The format was created by Google. |

JPG has carried the web's photo bandwidth since 1992. WebP cuts that bandwidth by roughly 25–35% at identical visual quality, and every modern browser displays the result natively. Drop your .jpg or .jpeg file above.
JPG (or JPEG, Joint Photographic Experts Group) is the lossy raster image format standardised in 1992. It uses Discrete Cosine Transform compression tuned for photographs and is the default output of nearly every digital camera and smartphone. JPG does not support transparency or animation.
WebP is Google's web image format from 2010. It supports lossy and lossless compression, alpha-channel transparency, and animation, and produces files roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera all render WebP natively.
