Will image quality drop after conversion?

No — PNG is lossless. The PNG is a pixel-perfect representation of the HEIC source. File size grows because PNG uses lossless compression while HEIC uses lossy.

Will the PNG preserve EXIF data (camera, GPS, date)?

Yes. EXIF metadata is preserved through the conversion and visible in any tool that reads PNG metadata (most modern viewers, Lightroom, exiftool, etc.).

Does the PNG support transparency?

PNG supports alpha transparency in general. HEIC iPhone photos are opaque, so the converted PNG is opaque. If you later edit the PNG to add transparency, the alpha channel is supported.

How big will the PNG be?

Typically 3-5× the HEIC size, because PNG is lossless. A 2 MB iPhone HEIC becomes a 6-10 MB PNG. For smaller files, convert to JPG or WebP instead.

Can I batch-convert HEIC files?

What Is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the file format Apple adopted for iPhone photos starting with iOS 11 in 2017. HEIC wraps HEIF-encoded image data — typically 50% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality. Windows requires the HEIF codec extension; many web platforms and apps simply reject HEIC uploads.

What Is PNG?

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless raster image format with alpha-channel transparency, standardised in 1996. Every browser, every image viewer, every design tool, and every document editor renders PNG natively. PNG is the universal lossless image format.
