| Description | TXT format is the simplest text file standard that doesn’t support formatting. Such file contains text characters, tab and line feed characters. Being outdated in functionality it has one major advantage - compact file size, comfortable for sharing, data export/import. It supports various charsets (DOS, WIN, ISO, KOI-8). The charset can be changed to make TXT file compatible with any text reader. The lack of formatting is solved by setting up format params in the reader program. |

PST is the sealed Outlook mailbox file. TXT is plain UTF-8 text that opens in any editor, indexes cleanly in any search tool, and survives any operating system. Converting PST to TXT pulls the readable text out of every email in the archive, ready for grep, ripgrep, Elasticsearch, or any e-discovery indexer. Drop your .pst file above.
PST (Personal Storage Table) is Microsoft Outlook's local mailbox file, in use since Outlook 97. A single .pst holds mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes in a self-contained binary database. The format is opaque to almost every tool that is not Outlook, which makes mailbox-level text search and scripting impractical without first extracting the content.
TXT is plain text — no markup, no fonts, no colours, just characters and line breaks. Plain text in UTF-8 encoding is the universal lowest common denominator: it opens in Notepad, TextEdit, VS Code, vi, every command-line tool, every search index, and every scripting language. Plain text will outlive every proprietary format on your disk.
