| Description | APE audio format (also referred to as the Monkey's audio format) is a popular lossless compression format supported by various Windows-based media players. APE achieves high quality with a 50% file size reduction compared to many popular lossy formats. Meanwhile, this format allows you to create excellent copies of your CD tracks with zero detriment to sound quality. As to the downsides of this format, it poses difficulty encoding because it uses a CPU-intensive compression pattern. Another shortcoming is that it is platform-dependent and works on Windows only. |

| Description | MP4 files can contain video and sound data. It is a file container that supports different multimedia content types such as multiple audio streams, subtitles, 2D and 3D image frames. MP4 is also used for streaming media services (online or digital TV). This file type supports the control of transmission speeds for media signal, as well as correcting corrupted frames. Thanks to comparatively low system requirements, MP4 is now the most popular container type for sharing media. |

APE (Monkey's Audio) files hold lossless quality audio but lack native support on iOS, Android, smart TVs, and most streaming gear. Converting APE to MP4/AAC gives you a file that plays everywhere while sounding nearly identical to the original at 256 kbps or higher. Drop your .ape file above.
APE (Monkey's Audio) is a lossless audio codec created by Matt Ashland and released in 2000. It stores PCM audio with compression ratios of roughly 40–60 %, producing files considerably smaller than uncompressed WAV or AIFF while preserving bit-for-bit accuracy. APE supports compression levels 1–5; level 2 (Normal) is the popular default. The format is common in audiophile communities and on some Asian download platforms, but it lacks native support in iOS, Android, most smart TVs, and streaming services.
When used as an audio container, MP4 (technically M4A) wraps AAC audio in an MPEG-4 Part 12 file. AAC is the successor to MP3: at the same bitrate it sounds noticeably better, especially below 160 kbps. MP4/M4A is natively supported on iOS, Android, macOS, and in all major browsers. It is the default export format for iTunes, Apple Music, and many other streaming and editing tools. Car stereos and portable players have supported M4A since roughly 2008.
